Flu Shots and Ear Infections!

So, we went for Butters' 9 month visit (at closer to 10 months) and all is well....except for her right ear.  He said it looked bad enough that it was probably painful so she got Omnicef for that.  Since she hadn't had a fever she was still able to get her Hep B vaccine as well as her flu shot and I am very thankful for that.  I've been trying to get all 3 well at the same time since August so we could get our flu shots.

Biscuit and Sausage had no idea flu shots were on the agenda until they heard me ask the lady at the window if they were available.  Panic set in.  "We don't want flu shots."  "We don't like shots, we had a flu shot last year..."  yadda yadda yadda.  They got all whiny and pitiful.  Then the nurse came in to tell us about Flu Mist.  Now, I'm a little afraid of that darn mist.  They couldn't get it last year because I was pregnant with Butters and it's not approved for pregnancy, but I had a very smart nurse practioner explain how if you got a live vaccine it DID make you contagious for up to 7 days.  Mostly this would be an issue for people with compromised immune systems, but I have a horror of MY kids sneezing on some unsuspecting chemo patient at WalMart and making them seriously ill.

Anyway, Kathy came in and talked to me while the kids sat there all pitiful.  I decided to let them choose.  I mean, it's their arm that gets poked anyway.  Shockingly, they both chose the mist.  Nurse Kathy squirted the syringe in their little noses and they could not have been happier.  So, that hour and a half we spent in the pediatrician's office was productive after all! Now we just have to get Butters back in a month for her 2nd dose of the flu shot.  Butters has been on her antibiotics for 4.5 days now and she's still pulling on her ear, so we may be going back sooner than I'd like.

The Poor Cow

I have been totally exhausted since our company left and we celebrated survived Halloween.  Today I threw a roast, carrots, and potatoes in my CrockPot so I wouldn't have to stand up and cook tonight.  I LOVE my CrockPot.  Anyway, my kids try to be super picky.  Not Butters, she eats ANYTHING. But Biscuit and Sausage are always claiming they don't like whatever I cook.  They are required to try everything and if they finish a small portion, still don't like it, and still claim to be hungry I will fix them a sandwich or a bowl of cereal.

I was fully prepared for the battle this evening and due to the whine factor that was running rampant, I sent kids to their rooms and they didn't get a snack.  I'm pretty sure this helped me.  When I finally put their plates in front of them they both claimed they didn't like it and of course, they wanted "different food."  After our normal conversation, they started eating slowly.  Much to their surprise, they liked everything!  As I was getting Sausage a second helping I heard him say "The poor cow is yummy.  Why does everybody kill all the cows?"  And since they already know all about hunting and why we eat animals, I said, "because they're yummy."  Sausage then exclaimed, "they should kill MORE!"

That boy cracks.me.up.  It almost made up for all the whining.  Tomorrow Butters has her belated 9 month checkup and all 3 are getting flu shots, so there's sure to be some insanity.
